Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT focuses on current difficulties with a view to changing the ‘here and now’ rather than spending time looking to the past for causes of distress. CBT is often between 6-12 sessions. The client is expected to take a more active role in therapy by applying the new skills and techniques learned to help make changes to thoughts and behaviours. There is evidence to support the effects of CBT with a variety of problems such as depression, anxiety, phobias, stress, panic disorder, personality disorders and OCD. However, this type of therapy may not suit everyone as there is a need for clients to apply the techniques offered and undertake some work themselves. Psycho-educational Group Therapy
Our psychoeducational groups focus on educating clients about their disorders and ways of coping. They are based on the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy. The group consists of members who all share the same issues, whether this is anxiety, depression or a more specific disorder. Run by psychotherapists, our small groups help clients learn about potential triggers, how to develop healthy coping mechanisms, and how to avoid pitfalls in the future.
